100 Years at the World’s Largest Food Fair
This year, the Anuga food fair in Cologne celebrates its 100th birthday. The event is both the largest and possibly the longest-running of its kind, earning its status as the number 1 food and beverage fixture in the world.
The first Allgemeine Nahrungs- und Genussmittel-Ausstellung or ’General Food and Beverage Trade Fair’ was actually held in Stuttgart and continued each year in a different German city before settling permanently in Cologne in 1951.
Since then, the fair has grown in size and scope to become the behemoth it is today: 10 trade fairs spanning 284,000 sqm; 7,400 exhibitors from 100 countries; 165,000 trade visitors from nearly 200 countries; shows, congresses, trends, innovations, awards and of course, thousands of flavours to be discovered and deals to be made, all in the beautiful and historic city of Cologne.
It’s also a special year for one of Anuga’s longtime exhibitors: Hungarian manufacturer Felföldi Confectionery celebrates 15 years at the Anuga this year, as well as 25 years of its signature product range: Quick Milk. With Hungary’s 2004 accession to the EU, Joseph Felföldi knew that Anuga was the number one launchpad for its innovative milk-flavouring range to a global audience.
Since then, Felföldi Confectionery has grown tenfold, exporting its growing range of innovative snack products to 40 countries worldwide. The Anuga festival remains the most important date on the Felföldi calendar, providing a springboard to a global audience and an unrivalled networking opportunity, amid the taste, sights, smells and buzz of the exhibition.
